YOUTH
DRESSAGE FESTIVAL
(Formerly, The Northeast Junior/Young Rider Dressage Championships)
This is the flagship event of Dressage4Kids, conducted in August. Instituted
in 1999, the festival offers individual and team competition for riders from
ages 4 through 21. Division championships feature a three-phased competition:
a written test, an individual dressage test, and a group equitation ride. Divisions
offered are Introductory through Fourth, FEI Pony, Junior and Young Rider and
ParaEquestrian. Riders may also assemble teams and vie for the USDF Region
8 Youth Team Championships. Classes for Leadline (riders aged 4 to 8), Prix
Caprilli (dressage ride incorporating jumps), Dressage Trail and Musical Freestyle
are offered, as are other competitive and fun activities. For complete details,

WEEKEND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
A weekend of lectures and demonstrations held in January or February,
presented by local and nationally renowned trainers, officials,
equine health care practitioners and sports psychologists.
FEI
PONY CLINIC
This is a just-for-ponies dressage clinic held during the summer,
featuring mounted lessons and lectures. The German Pony Chef d’Equipe
conducts this three-day event.
WEEKLY SUMMER YOUTH CLINICS
Weekly afternoon clinics are held at Gleneden Dressage in Bedford,
New York, for riders of all levels. The clinics are comprised
of mounted lessons, demonstration rides and study sessions.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUTH
Scholarships for specific equestrian educational and training opportunities
in the US or abroad are available throughout the year by application
for any rider who has participated in the last two years in
the Youth Dressage Festival, the Weekend Educational Program
or the FEI Pony Clinic. |
